We found cannabis to be confusing and intimidating. Wacky strain names, different methods, inaccurate dosing, and a “one-joint-fits-all” approach lead us to overwhelming and negative experiences. We founded 1861 Gold [1861 Everyday] on the principles of changing cannabis for the better and simplifying the experience, making it more positive for everyone. 

Through clinical research, select genetics, and rigorous testing, we craft top-tier [budget-friendly] cannabis products to get you in the right mood, right away. Our premium, sun-grown whole flower is responsibly grown and manufactured in a variety of mood-based flower, prerolls, concentrates, vapes, and edibles to suit your favorite consumption method. Identity

We enhanced some legacy identity work by building two sub-brand identities that remained consistent with the parent branding (1861 Market) yet retained their own distinctive visual attributes. Both logos incorporated solid, clutter-free shapes and modern type into the logo to convey approachability and an elevated experience. A gold gradation was used for the Gold products for a luxury appeal. The solid blue color used for Everyday denotes utility, consistency, and budget-friendliness. Both brands share the same typeface to give a universal typographic identity, easy availability, and web use flexibility.

Mood Branding

Cannabis strain names are confusing and intimidating to most new and recreational consumers. That’s why we helped 1861 Market categorize its products by four simple moods not strains. Feeling uplifted, creative, relaxed, or sleepy is much easier to understand for consumers than trying to figure out how OG Kush, Purple Urkle, or Cat Pee (Yikes!) will make them feel.

Each mood name, messaging, and distinct colorway was carried throughout the customer experience from retail and house brand premium product packaging to website, social media, and additional marketing collateral.

Packaging

We built 40 products across five product categories between the two brands. The colorways are directly connected to the overall mood-based categorizations of the parent brand. Gradations were used for the Gold products for a luxury appeal. The solid colors used for Everyday denote utility, consistency, and budget-friendliness. All packaging and messaging underwent stringent revisions to ensure compliance with local and state law.  

Results

Minted’s business has improved 30% since the launch of the website and branding identity. New clients claim the clarity of its messaging and the website is one of the main reasons they began a consultancy relationship with Minted.
