LBUSD wanted to offer a district preschool that created a love for learning, developing the pre-academics and social skills needed to prepare the students for TK and K, and elementary school. Other key needs were to distinguish it from long-established preschool programs in the area by offering an unmatchable educational continuity with the district’s other schools. Our branding and identity workshops helped clarify and focus its offerings, creating the messaging and visual elements needed to introduce the preschool and encourage parents to enroll.

Identity
The preschool is essentially of the community and by the community so we used that as an anchor for our identity generation. Inspired by its iconic coastline geography, we incorporated a simple, playful coastline shape into the letterforms of the logo and added the warmth of the ever-present sun that radiates above it. A foundational peacock blue forms the anchor of our colorway. A bright aqua blue and a punchy, cheerful sunflower yellow accent round out the set evoking the traditional terrain, flora, and marine colors of the Laguna Beach area. Finally, the range of type weights available in Outfit gave us a universal typographic identity, easy availability, web use flexibility, continuity with other district materials.
Brand Standards
We built a brand guide complete with usage rules and web accessibility standards to ensure a messaging and visual consistency not just at the center but also across the school district.
Distribution
COMING SOON. We are currently in the process of deploying the branding through a variety of assets including a website, photo shoots, print and digital design, email, and social media awareness. Please check back soon for further case study updates.
Results
COMING SOON. The Laguna Beach Preschool will open in the Fall of 2024. Prior to the opening, the community response has been overwhelmingly positive resulting in a full-capacity new student enrollment interest within three days of the soft public launch and discussions about adding additional classes.
