It is difficult—but not impossible—to turn an idea into an amendment. Only 27 times—out of more than 11,000 proposals—have Americans reached consensus to amend the Constitution. We researched many of the basic fundamental rights that this long, arduous task has produced and narrowed our focus down five basics that the public could quickly connect with. To provoke thought and further exploration, we asked the public to think critically about where they might be without these rights and paired these questions with resonate imagery from historical moments in their evolution.
